I became a professional chemist in 1975 and received my PhD in Chemistry in 1992.
In 1992, the year of the Rio Summit, all countries within the United Nations adopted a motion to develop the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for the classification and labeling of chemicals.
I spent my entire career in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS). I originally programmed the actual Intelligent Authoring (IA) software, which was named ChemMate for the first version issued back in 1990.
From 1999 to March 2022, I worked providing Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), labels, and regulatory consulting related to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS).
Since June 1st, 2022, I provided the same services as before via local teams in North America, the Netherlands, and Asia Pacific. I also offer software licensing for companies looking to write their own SDSs.
I am the Director of Product Management at Reddwall Solutions, working with colleagues on the pre-production notification of chemicals for our customers. I also work with sophisticated and alternative analytical methods in the laboratory, to allow the declassification of products that contain crystalline silica, by measuring the 'respirable portion' which is very often below the GHS standard to classify the product as a carcinogen.
I give webinars and conferences on GHS-related topics. I am also an active regulatory consultant for a variety of companies.
